Spiritual Growth

Why you cannot grow alone

October 20, 2026 · 2 min read

Some of us treat faith as a private project. We read alone, pray alone and struggle alone. But Scripture paints a different picture: a family, a body, a community walking together.

Proverbs 27:17 says that as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. We grow through friction and encouragement from people who love us enough to be honest. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 adds that two are better than one, because if one falls, the other can help.

Hebrews 10:24-25 urges us to spur one another on toward love and good deeds and not to give up meeting together. Showing up regularly matters, even when you are tired or feeling distant.

Finding your people takes courage. Visit your campus ministry or a small group, introduce yourself and keep coming back. Look for friends who love Jesus, tell you the truth and celebrate your wins.

Be that person for someone else, too. Send the encouraging text, invite the new face to lunch and pray with the friend who is struggling. Community is built one small kindness at a time.

Try this: invite one person to pray, study or eat with you this week.
