Many people want to read the Bible but feel lost the moment they open it. Where do you begin? How do you understand it? What do you do with what you read?
Begin with the Gospel of Mark. It is short, fast-moving and introduces you to Jesus through His actions. Read one chapter a day, and you will finish in about two weeks. After Mark, move to Acts, then Psalms for prayer and Proverbs for wisdom.
As you read, ask four simple questions. What does this passage say? What does it tell me about God? What does it ask me to believe or do? Who can I share it with? Write short answers in a notebook. Writing slows you down enough to notice.
Do not rush, and do not worry if some parts are hard. Pray before you read and ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes. If you get stuck, read the passage again, check the verses around it and ask a more mature believer.
Finally, do something with it. Pick one line to carry through the day, memorize it and obey it. Scripture was never meant to stay on the page. As Romans 12:2 puts it, we are transformed by the renewing of our minds.
Try this: read Mark 1 today, answer the four questions in a notebook and share one answer with a friend.
